Chemours Unveils Advanced Battery Innovation Center to Shape the Future of Electric Vehicles

In an exciting leap towards advancing electric vehicle (EV) technology, The Chemours Company has inaugurated its state-of-the-art Battery Innovation Center (CBIC) in Newark, Delaware. This newly opened facility, located at the Chemours Discovery Hub, represents a multi-million-dollar investment aimed at revolutionizing the development of more sustainable, cost-effective, and high-performing batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Denise Dignam, President and CEO of Chemours, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging its chemistry expertise to meet the challenges of today’s automotive industry. “The Chemours Battery Innovation Center is a significant investment in the future of EV batteries. Our goal is to enhance sustainability and performance, and this facility allows us to collaborate with our partners to drive these advancements forward,” said Dignam.

The CBIC is designed to serve as a collaborative space where Chemours engineers and their partners can work together to test, scale, and implement next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) that will enhance the performance and energy efficiency of electric vehicles.

U.S. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware expressed his enthusiasm about the potential impact of the CBIC. “Delaware is positioned to be a leader in battery innovation, thanks to Chemours’ investment in this cutting-edge facility. This is a major step forward in our journey toward a cleaner, more sustainable future,” said Coons.

Chemours’ focus on innovation doesn’t stop at the lab. The company’s Teflon™ fluoropolymer binders, essential for solvent-free battery electrode manufacturing, highlight its dedication to advancing cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions. Gerardo Familiar, President of Advanced Performance Materials at Chemours, noted that the CBIC is poised to accelerate the adoption of these new technologies, ultimately propelling the electric vehicle industry forward.
